The Woman in White
The first London revival of The Woman in White
Thom Southerland will direct this premiere with a revised score and libretto from Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel in a strictly limited 12-week season at Charing Cross Theatre.
Acclaimed rising star director Thom Southerland (Titanic, Grey Gardens, Grand Hotel) is to direct the first ever revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier Award-nominated musical The Woman in White.
A tempestuous tale of love, betrayal and greed, adapted from Wilkie Collins’ haunting Victorian thriller, this is the premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel’s revised score.
“The Woman in White is more than a musical, it is a powerful popular opera, both romantic and spectacular; a thriller; a swaggering, flamboyant Victorian melodrama; a tempestuous story of love and intrigue; a great, arching narrative, brilliantly told.” - The Sunday Times
“Lloyd Webber’s music, never before so classical and operatic, becomes hypnotic as it slowly unveils its melodies.” - The Daily Mail
“Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best score in years.” - The Guardian
“Big, lush, swirling melodies that pour over you and seem to pin you down.” - Financial Times
“Luscious, lavish, sensual, romantic and melodramatic.” - The Mail on Sunday
“A must-see musical thriller! The Woman in White is an engrossing tale, full of artifice and spine-chiller twists.” - New York Post

Small intimate theatre created a good atmosphere. All actors very good and their singing was top notch. Clever use of scenery and lighting effects.

The White Stuff

Great cast and well staged, however the absence of "I can do most anything" from the first act (as it is in the original production) meant Count Fosco's character wasn't as well developed as it might've been until the second act. Overall well worth seeing

Excellent performance - with one or two outstanding voices - Wilkie Collins story well told - would definitely recommend to friends and the cost is very good for a musical.

I wasn’t expecting much based on the price of the musical and more especially it being based on such an old and not very (imo) good book. But actually the singers were unexpectedly good and the plot engaging. Definitely worth a visit!

I thought it was fantastic, so well acted and sung, and it drew you in to feel involved and care for each of the main characters. Atmospheric, and gripping from beginning to end. Fab !

.Fantastic score that will make you soar ! .Oustanding cast; amazing to have Anna O Byrne in an ALW musical again, she surely doesn't disappoint and you will be blown away but the rest of the actors as well ! .Simple yet clever staging, working perfectly for this very well written story. Definitely recommended, you will have a great time !

Overall, I enjoyed this production, the acting, singing, music, particularly some of the songs. They were moments during the show that really stood out - Count Fosco, You Can Get Away with Anything . . . But, there is still something missing which I can't quite put my finger on.

The Return of the Secret
13 December 2017
In this downscaled Production of love, crime and betrayel comes the gripping story of the Woman in White much closer to the auditorium than in the fullscaled production in the Palace Theatre with its horrible videoprojections. The Cast is outstanding. Anna O´Byrne plays and feels the troubles of Laura so intense that you are worried if she is doing well or not, she has a brilliant voice as heard in the role of Christine in the australian production of Love Never Dies and POTO in the West End. All the other Castmemebers are fantastic in voice and acting. The big hits are "All for Laura" and "I believe my heart" and Count Foscos "Get awy with anything".

A spectacularly Gothic performance
4 December 2017
A really enjoyable production of this nineteenth century classic which highlighted its key themes in spectacular fashion. If you like drama, mystery and singing then this is a performance not to be missed. The highlight was definitely the singing as the cast were all superb singers. I would highly recommend this show.

A wonderful intriguing performance
26 November 2017
The uniqueness of the small, intimate theatre under the arches, set the scene for what was a powerful and intense performance, creating the mysterious and haunting atmosphere the book evokes. With gifted performers, acting and singing with total conviction, added to the compelling musical score, the punchy, drama filled musical was utterly mesmerising. Being there felt being part of something very special,
