Hamlet 2018

Learning of his father’s death, Prince Hamlet comes home to find his uncle married to his mother and installed on the Danish throne. At night, the ghost of the old king demands that Hamlet avenge his ‘foul and most unnatural murder.’

Encompassing political intrigue and sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent action, tragic depth and wild humour, Hamlet is a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of Shakespeare’s genius.

Hamlet is brought to life by the Olivier award-winning Michelle Terry.

The Globe Ensemble includes: Catrin Aaron (Horatio), Yarit Dor (Fight Director), James Garnon(Claudius), Federay Holmes, Colin Hurley, Bettrys Jones, Richard Katz, Jack Laskey, James Maloney, Nadia Nadarajah (Guildenstern), Pearce Quigley (Rosencrantz), Shubham Saraf (Ophelia) and Helen Schlesinger.

Good To Know

‘As Shakespeare’s Globe comes of age and reaches its twenty-first year, it seemed appropriate to start the 2018 summer season with the question ‘Who’s there?’ The opening words of Hamlet will be the first of many questions asked to our audiences and ourselves as we look to the future and the next twenty years of Globe seasons.

Playing alongside Hamlet will be As You Like It. Both written around 1599, the year the original Globe was built, these plays speak to each other in surprising and exciting ways. An ensemble of artists will explore these well-thumbed and popular plays in parallel, as if for the first time, and will put the story and the storyteller at the heart of this exploration.’
