Horror - Jakop Ahlbom Company

A deserted mansion. A young woman returns to the place of her bleak childhood. No longer able to suppress memories of her cruel parents and strange sister, she is forced to confront the past and some terrible truths.

Jakop Ahlbom’s imaginative homage to the horror movie genre is ingenuously gruesome, genuinely scary and very funny. Referencing classic spine-chillers as well as more recent horror masterpieces like The Shining, Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, Horror will have you shuddering at the edge of your seat.

Horror now returns after critical acclaim when it was presented at the 2016 Mime Festival. Don’t miss his latest cinema-inspired new drama, a journey into fear and fun, with all the mystery, gore and logic-defying illusions you could wish for.

★★★★ "Clever, thoroughly entertaining and genuinely jump-out-of-your-seat moments" - London Evening Standard

★★★★ "A razor-sharp delight" - The Observer

★★★★★ "Genuinely terrifying" - The Stage

  • Beware! Good, but not what you might think

Overall my husband and I enjoyed the play. Having said that though, we watched the trailer for it and were expecting a scary, and frightening tale that kept us on the edge of our seats. What we got was a wonderful stage set with great direction, but as for 'scares', there were very few. Towards the end, the play descended into a modern dance fest, which although wonderfully choreographed and executed, wasn't really what we were expecting. Having said that, all the actors involved worked really hard throughout. We both felt that the director also missed a golden opportunity to add a much needed plot twist at the end of the play to make it all worthwhile. In a nutshell, don't expect to be scared to turn off the light when you get home, but do enjoy the staging and acting.

  • Not your normal play!

Wasn't really sure what to expect apart from the fact it was a horror in mime format. I believe their is an loose underlying "story" of sorts about a woman revisiting her home where cruelty had happened years before as a child. However I would say forget that and just go with the view it is a tribute to horror and the effects which have been seen in many films such as The Ring, Exorcist, Shining etc.. The effects are very good and the acting/mime is fast and furious with a small amount of humour! More of a horror sketch show in my opinion. Given 4 stars for the acting effort and the effects... would have got 5 if I had understood the underlying story!
